A Secret Rapture?

Part III

The Evil Prince

He will desecrate the Temple.

He will halt the daily sacrifices.

He will set up the Abomination that causes Desolation IN the Temple.

He will sit as God, in the Temple of God.

He will destroy the City and the Temple.

Scripture is from the NKJV unless otherwise noted.

Daniel 9:24-28 Seventy ‘sevens’ are decreed for your people and your holy city to finish transgression, to put an end to sin, to atone for wickedness, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophecy and to anoint the Most Holy Place.”

In Part Five of our series, we will talk about those things to be “finished” by the end of the “seventy-sevens.”

Daniel 9:24-28 [continued] 25 “Know and understand this: From the time the word goes out to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until the Anointed One, the ruler, comes, there will be seven ‘sevens,’ and sixty-two ‘sevens.’ It will be rebuilt with streets and a trench [meaning with strong defenses], but in times of trouble.

The Time Periods

I’m going to address this right up front. I believe the 69 “sevens” will be LITERAL WEEKS. From the command to rebuild, it will take 69 “sevens” to build a third Temple of Yehovah on the Mount at Jerusalem. That Temple will then be consecrated for 7 days (the 70th “week” of the prophecy).

Daniel 9:27 “He will confirm a strong covenant with many for one seven.”

Seventy literal weeks = one year, four months, ten days. That period fits easily within the first half of the 7 year covenant period predicted in verse 27, leaving plenty of time for a months long cleanup of the Old City and the Mount.

After an Islamic bomb destroys much of the Old City, Jerusalem and the Mount will need to be cleaned up first. The cleanup will take some months, but not the entire first half of the covenant period.

This puts seventy, literal, 7 day “weeks” (called “sevens”) within the first half of the longer period of 7 years (also called a “seven”).

Would the LORD confuse the reader by putting “sevens” within a longer “seven?” Well it would make the prophecy more difficult to understand. In the Ezekiel vision, the LORD’s throne is carried by a chariot with a “wheel in a wheel” (Ezek 1:16 and 10:10).

One “seven” can refer to a period of 7 years. This is the case in Daniel Chapter 4, where King Nebuchadnezzar loses his mind for 7 years. This was the span of one planting cycle (Exo 25:10-11). But a week of 7 days was also called a “seven.”

A three and a half year time period at the end of this age, agrees with other prophecies.

The time period is broken into 7 “sevens” and 62 “sevens.” Some see two time periods, - an initial 7 weeks, during which a Tabernacle would be raised up on the Mount, and sacrifices offered, followed by 62 weeks during which an actual Temple of stone will be built.

The Third Temple Institute says they have everything except the Ark of the Covenant, ready. They have a solid gold Menorah, a Table of Show Bread, an Alter of Incense, and a silver Laver for the priests to ceremonially wash. They have the tent materials, the coverings and the veils. They have all the robes and vestments for the priests, including the breastplate of precious stones for the High Priest.

A Tabernacle tent could be set up very quickly and an Alter of stone constructed. It would have to be consecrated for 7 days. A High Priest and a priesthood could be anointed and begin to serve after 7 days of consecration.

            Let’s continue with the passage.

Daniel 9:24-28 [continued] 26 “After the sixty-two ‘sevens,’ the Anointed One will be put to death and will have nothing.”

To my mind, it appears the anointed High Priest will be killed (or at least cut off from the Temple) relatively soon after the Temple proper is completed.

The sacrifices are halted, as the Evil Ruler takes over the Temple and the Mount. He will then set up the “abomination that causes desolation” - right in the Temple of Yehovah. I believe this will be “the Image of the Beast.”

Daniel 9:24-28 [continued] “The people of the ruler who will come will destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end will come like a flood: War will continue until the end, and desolations have been decreed.”

Obviously the evil “ruler” “will confirm a covenant with many” BEFORE he destroys the city and the Temple.

It is typical of Hebrew writings to repeat a message with added details.

Daniel 9:24-28 [continued] 27 “He will confirm a covenant with many for one ‘seven.’

In the middle of the ‘seven’ he will put an end to sacrifice and offering.

And at the Temple he will set up an abomination that causes desolation, until the end that is decreed is poured out on him.” (NIV)

I like the NIV translation of this passage. The word “seven” or “sevens,” is used instead of “weeks.” The word “ruler” is used instead of “prince.” The ruler who makes a covenant for “one seven” (a treaty or contract), is the same one who halts the sacrifices at the rebuilt Temple. He is the one who will “set up an abomination that causes desolation.” The words chosen by the NIV translators connect us to other prophecies, and other passages.

Who is “the ruler who is to come?” (Daniel 7:26) What do we know about him?

He will “bring an end to sacrifice and offering.”

He will finally destroy the City and the Temple.

Rome? Islam? Antichrist? The Beast power? The Little Horn? Satan himself?

PRINCE, or RULER?

The word translated as “prince,” is “nagiyd” - Strong’s #05057, meaning: leader, ruler, captain, or prince.

He may not be a “prince” at all, in the English sense of the word, meaning descended from a King, and in line for the throne. He may just be a powerful ruler.

THE DESTROYER

The ruler/prince to come, will either BE the one who makes desolate,” or he will prepare the way for that great Evil One. He will set up “the abomination” in the Temple.

At the 5th Trumpet “locusts” [demons] will be released from the Bottomless Pit, to torment men on earth who are without the seal of God. “They have as king over them “the angel of the bottomless pit.” Satan himself is of course, that fallen angel. His name in Hebrew is Abaddon, and in Greek he is called Apollyon(Revelation 9:11). Both those words mean “Destroyer.” At the Glorious Return of Christ both “the Beast” (with its Little Horn) and “the False Prophet” will be cast into the Lake of Fire. Christ will return to crush the Little Horn and the Beast, and to end their 1260 day reign of persecution (Daniel 7:21-22).

A COVENANT FOR ONE “SEVEN”

The “ruler to come” will confirm a covenant with many for one “seven (Dan 9:27).

The Ancient Jews of Christ’s day, would not have made a covenant with any uncircumcised Gentile’s. The LORD had forbidden it (Exo 23:32, Deut 7:2, Jdgs 2:2). For me, this is one more piece of evidence pointing to a fulfillment in “the latter days.” The modern State of Israel has entered in to covenants with Gentile nations.

The LORD made a covenant with Israel at Mt Sinai, which was still in effect during the lifetime of Jesus. It certainly was not limited to “one week.” Believers today are betrothed to Christ by a New Covenant of marriage, as were His first disciples.

      See our study: “Two Covenants.”

I know of no covenant which Christ made with anyone for only 7 days, or 7 years.

The LORD did promise King Nebuchadnezzar that his throne would be secure for him, after “seven times” (years) of madness, but that was a promise (Daniel Chapter Four).

            Let’s read the passage again.

Daniel 9:27Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one seven; But in the middle of the seven he shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering. And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate, even until the consummation, which is determined, is poured out on the desolate” [or, “on the desolator,” in many translations].

The word “then” is not in the Hebrew.

The one who makes a covenant for one “seven” is the “ruler to come”, the same one who will “bring an end to sacrifice and offering” at the restored Temple - the same one who will set up the “abomination that causes desolation.”

Who is he? We do not yet know. We know the things he will do. That is how believers in the last days, will recognize this evil “ruler.”

Let’s look at the wording of other prophecies given to Daniel, and the wording of prophecies given to John. They speak of the SAME TIME PERIOD.

Daniel 8:11-14 “It [the Little Horn on the Beast] became great, even as great as the Prince of the host [Jesus the Christ]. And the regular burnt offering was taken away from [or by] him, and the place of his sanctuary [the Temple] was overthrown. 12 And a host will be given over to it [to the Horn] together with the regular burnt offering because of transgression, and it will throw truth to the ground, and it will act and prosper.

13 Then I heard a holy one speaking, and another holy one said to the one who spoke, ‘For how long is the vision concerning the regular burnt offering, the transgression that makes desolate, and the giving over of the sanctuary and host to be trampled underfoot?’

14 And he said to me, ‘For 2,300 evenings and mornings. Then the sanctuary shall be restored to its rightful state.’” (ESV)

1150 evening sacrifices + 1150 morning sacrifices = 2300 evening/morning sacrifices. The total number of sacrifices would be offered over 1150 days, or 3 years 2 months and 10 days. This period fits within the predicted three and a part years. This is the number of days that the sacrifices would continue at the restored Tabernacle/Temple, before the “ruler to come” puts a stop to them.

Daniel 7:25 “He will speak against the Most High and oppress his holy people and try to change the set times and the laws. The holy people will be delivered into his hands for a time, times and half a time.” (NIV)

Daniel 7:21-22 “I kept looking, and that horn [the Little Horn] was waging war with the saints and overpowering them 22 until the Ancient of Days came, and judgment was passed in favor of the saints of the Highest One, and the time arrived when the saints took possession of the kingdom. (NAS)

Daniel 12:6-11 And someone said to the man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the stream, ‘How long shall it be till the end of these wonders?

7 And I heard the man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the stream; he raised his right hand and his left hand toward heaven and swore by him who lives forever that it would be for a time, times, and half a time, and that when the shattering of the power of the holy people comes to an end all these things would be finished.”

NOTE Only the Son of God would swear by His Father.

The word translated as “half” is “chetsiy,” Strong’s #02677. It most usually means “half,” or “middle.”

Daniel 12:6-11 [continued] 8 “I heard, but I did not understand. Then I said, ‘O my lord, what shall be the outcome of these things?’ 9 He said, ‘Go your way, Daniel, for the words are shut up and sealed until the time of the end. . . .

11 And from the time that the regular burnt offering is taken away and the abomination that makes desolate is set up, there shall be 1,290 days. 12 Blessed is he who waits and arrives at the 1,335 days.” (ESV)

Revelation 11:1-3 “Then I was given a reed like a measuring rod. And the angel stood, saying, ‘Rise and measure the temple of God, the altar, and those who worship there. 2 But leave out the court which is outside the temple, and do not measure it, for it has been given to the Gentiles. And they will tread the holy city underfoot for forty-two months. 3 And I will give power to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy one thousand two hundred and sixty days, clothed in sackcloth.” (NKJ)

The “angel” speaking was Yeshua Messiah. He said, “I will give power to My two       witnesses.” Only Christ would speak like this.

To “measure the Temple of God” is to render judgment.

The text continues with the murder of the “witnesses” at the end of time 1260 days. Three and a half days later a Voice from heaven will call forth those two witnesses, and the murders will see them ascend to heaven in a cloud (Rev 11:11-12). This is the Glorious Return! On this day, Christ will call forth the dead. Just one more passage that verifies the 1260 days will be the LAST period of persecution.

Revelation 13:5-7 “And there was given to him [to the terrible Beast] a mouth speaking arrogant words and blasphemies; and authority to act for forty-two months was given to him. 6 And he opened his mouth in blasphemies against God, to blaspheme His name and His tabernacle, that is, those who dwell in heaven. 7 And it was given to him to make war with the saints and to overcome them; and authority over every tribe and people and tongue and nation was given to him.” (NAS)

In Daniel Chapter 9, Chapter 11, and Chapter 12, the one who will abolish the regular burnt offering, is ALSO the one who will set up the abomination that causes desolation.

      This is definitely NOT Jesus!

The abomination of desolation is set up IN THE TEMPLE, in place of the regular burnt offering. I believe this abomination will be “the Image of the Beast.”

Daniel 12:11From the time that the regular burnt offering is taken away and the abomination that desolates is set up, there shall be one thousand two hundred ninety days.” (NRS)

The regular sacrifice is abolished, and the abomination is set up in its place - at the SAME point in time. In order to do this, the evil “prince” will have to break the seven year covenant (treaty) he makes with the Jewish people.

HE WILL TAKE AWAY THE DAILY

Prophecies of the coming evil “ruler”mention something called “the daily” in the King James Version. In many versions, the words are translated as “the regular burnt offering.” The Little Horn (on the terrible Beast power) will abolish it, or take it away (Daniel 8:11).

Sounds like the Little Horn IS the evil “ruler who is to come.”

The word translated as “the daily” or “the daily sacrifice,” is the Hebrew word “tamiyd” (Strong’s # 08548). It means “the continual.” The LORD commanded that the fire on the Brazen Alter in the courtyard of the Tabernacle, was never to go out (Leviticus 6:8-12).

That fire was to burn continuously. Every morning and every evening, a sacrifice was to be burned in that fire - symbolizing the continual covering of the atonement for Israel.

A REPEATING SCENARIO

The Little Horn of the terrible Beast power, will take over the Temple.

He will halt the daily sacrifices. He will then set up the Image of the Beast at the Temple.

The prophecy of the “seventy-sevens,” is absolutely tied to the Temple at Jerusalem, and to the continual sacrifice offered on the Alter in the courtyard of that Temple. The Little Horn - the evil ruler to come, will halt the sacrifices at the Temple, and will then set up (in place of the sacrifices) “the abomination that causes desolation.”

I realize that this has already happened - more than once.

Antiochus IV (175-164 BC), was the 8th ruler of the Seleucid empire. He gave himself the surname “Epiphanes” which means “the visible god” (meaning that he was Jupiter in visible form). He was determined to eradicate the religion of the Jews. He devastated Jerusalem in 168 BC, defiled the Temple, offered a pig on its altar, erected an altar to Jupiter, prohibited Temple worship, forbade circumcision on pain of death, sold thousands of Jewish families into slavery, destroyed every Torah Scroll that he could find, and resorted to every conceivable torture, seeking to force Jews to renounce their religion. This led to the Maccabaean revolt.

Antiochus Epiphanes DID NOT destroy the Temple. The Maccabaean revolt successfully recaptured and rededicated the Temple (164BC).

In 70AD, the Roman general Titus destroyed the City and the Temple. In an effort to leave no trace of the Second Temple, the Emperor Hadrian erected a Temple of Jupiter on the site.

Jesus predicted the Temple’s destruction when His disciples asked what “sign” would tell of the end of the age. Was He referring to the Temple of 70AD, or to a future Temple? Perhaps to both.

Matthew 24:2-3, 14-15, 21 “The disciples came to Him privately, saying, ‘Tell us, when will     these things be? [When will the Temple be destroyed?] And what will be the sign of     Your coming, and of the end of the age?’ . . .

[Jesus answered] ‘And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come. . . .

[Jesus continued] Therefore when you see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place . . . (Dan 11:31) then there will be great tribulation, [persecution + the Trumpet warning plagues] such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be (Daniel 12:1).’”

Should we expect another Temple, BEFORE the end of this age?

     Yes. I believe so.

HE WILL SIT AS GOD - IN THE TEMPLE OF GOD

2 Thessalonians 2:1-4 “Now, brethren, concerning the coming (parousia) of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, . . .

Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away COMES FIRST, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the Temple of God, showing himself that he is God.”

The Antichrist will desecrate the Temple and demand worship BEFORE the coming of Christ, and “our gathering to Him.”

Daniel 11:36-39 “Then the king will do as he pleases, and he will exalt and magnify himself above every god, and will speak monstrous things against the God of gods; and he will prosper until the indignation is finished, for that which is decreed will be done. 37 And he will show no regard for the gods of his fathers or for the desire of women, nor will he show regard for any other god; for he will magnify himself above them all.” (NAS)

Daniel 8:11 [Describing the actions of the Little Horn] “He even exalted himself as high as the Prince of the host; and by him the daily sacrifices were taken away, and the place of His sanctuary was cast down.”

Daniel 11:45He will pitch his royal tents between the seas at the glorious holy mountain [at the Temple Mount]. Yet he shall come to his end, and no one will help him.” (NIV)

THIS has been Satan’s ambition from the beginning of his fall. Consider the following passage from Isaiah, describing the fallen Lucifer, who was once “the anointed cherub who covers.”

Isaiah 14:13 “But you said in your heart, ‘I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God, And I will sit on the mount of assembly in the recesses of the north. 14 ‘I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.’” (NAS)

1 Samuel 2:32 “And you will see an enemy in My dwelling place.”

It will be the moment of his greatest triumph. He will sit in the restored Temple of God on the Mount at Jerusalem. . . . His triumph will be short-lived.

THE CHRIST IMPOSTER

Paul said that the coming “man of sin” would sit” in the Temple of God (2Thess 2:4). This is a very specific prophecy. The only man who was allowed to sit, within the Temple court, was the anointed Son of David - “the prince” of Ezekiel’s Temple prophecy (Ezekiel 44:1-3).

The fact that the coming Evil One will sit in the Temple, suggests this coming ruler will claim to be the Son of David - the Messiah! Those who worship this imposter, will be destroyed with him.

I believe such a scenario is entirely plausible. It would “deceive, if possible, the very elect”       (Matthew 24:24).

THE MASTERPIECE OF DECEPTION

The generation of UN globalists, will celebrate the end of bloody animal sacrifices at the Temple of Jerusalem. They will welcome an inclusive house of worship for “all peoples.”

The Imposter may claim to be the messiah figure for all of the world’s religions. He may claim to be an advanced alien who visited our planet many times over many thousands of years, for the benefit of mankind. Fifty six years of the Star Trek series, has prepared the world for such a deception. So has the increasing appearance of Unidentified Arial Phenomena.

See “Alien Intrusion“ on our resources page.

CROSSING THE LINE

When King Belshazzar of Babylon used the golden vessels from the Temple of Jerusalem, to serve wine to his guests at a state banquet, a hand suddenly appeared, writing on the wall of the palace. “You have been weighed in the balances, and found wanting. Your kingdom has been divided, and given to the Medes and Persians” (Dan 5:27).

It will be A SIGN for the people of God in the last days. When we “see the abomination, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place” (Matt 24:15, Mk 13:14), demanding the whole world serve him, we will know that Satan (with his Beast and His Little Horn) has been judged by the Court of Heaven, and dominion of this earth has been given to our Lord Jesus Christ (Dan 7:9-14).

This will energize the “two witnesses” of Revelation Chapter Eleven, who will begin their final testimony. Jesus will fight for His dominion, against Satan and his fallen ones, who will resist with great ferocity.

BEFORE or AFTER ?

Darby said the Antichrist would rise to power half way between the Rapture and the Glorious Return.

What does Paul say?

 “THAT DAY”

- the day of Christ’s return,

the day of “our gathering together to Him,”

“WILL NOT COME”

until the Evil One sits in the Temple of God!

2Thessalonians 2:1-4

SAVED BY WORKS OF THE LAW - for 7 Years

                                                          without Sacrifices??

Darby said that Jews can be “saved by works of the law” during the 7 years between the Rapture and the Glorious Return of Jesus Christ. He said the Jews must complete the last 7 years of a previous dispensation - The Age of the Law.

QUESTION: If the Little Horn - Evil Prince desecrates the Temple, halts the sacrifices and cuts off the anointed Aaronic priests from that Temple, HOW THEN will Jews be saved by “works of the law” during the last half of the 7 years?

ANSWER: They could not. Just one more reason to question Darby’s interpretation of Daniel’s prophecy.

Daniel 9:27 “Then he [the ruler to come] shall confirm a covenant with many for one seven; But in the middle of the seven he shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering.

WHAT I BELIEVE

I believe the prophecy of the 70 “sevens,”

will be fulfilled in the last days.

            1. I know of no prior 7 year covenant that was made with the Jewish people.

            2. Daniel was told to “seal” the visions until “the time of the END.”

3. Many passages speak of a 1260 day (42 month) period of persecution will precede the return of Christ. This half-week fits the period during which the Evil Ruler of Daniel Chapter 9, will take over the Temple at Jerusalem.

            4. Paul said the Antichrist would “sit in the Temple of God” BEFORE the return of Christ.

I believe the Old City of Jerusalem will be destroyed (probably by an Islamic bomb).

The Little Horn (“the ruler who is to come”) will make a 7 year covenant (treaty) with the State of Israel, which will allow access to the Temple Mount for Jews.

The State of Israel will proceed with cleanup of the Mount, and will then facilitate the raising of a Tabernacle (tent) on the Mount, over the place that was designated “most holy.” A priesthood of the Order of Aaron will be consecrated, and the Tabernacle will be consecrated for 7 days. Sacrifices will again be offered on an Alter in the “Courtyard” of that Tabernacle.

Construction of a Temple proper - of stone, will then continue. The building process will take 62 weeks (1 year, 2 months, 14 days).

Shortly after the newly rebuilt Temple is operational, the evil “ruler” - the one who made the covenant, will break that covenant/treaty. He will take over the Temple and the Mount.

To do this, he will have to “cut off the anointed ruler - the High Priest of that Temple.

(Priests as well as kings, were anointed for their office.) It is quite possible that the High Priest will be killed, because Jews will fight to retain control of the Temple and the Mount. The Hebrew “karath” (Strong’s #03772) can mean “to kill” or “to execute.” It can also indicate that the High Priest will be banished from the Temple.

The evil ruler will abolish the animal sacrifices - thus taking away “the daily.” He will then set up the Image of the Beast IN the Courtyard of the Temple, or possibly inside the Temple proper, (thus defiling the Temple).

These will be signs for those who understand, telling them that the last “time, times, and a part” have begun. This will inspire the “Two Witnesses” of Revelation Chapter 11, who will begin their 42 months of witness in the streets of Jerusalem.

I agree with Darby, that the prophecies point to a final period of three and a part years, during which the “Little Horn” (the representative “head” and enforcer for the “terrible Beast” power) will persecute the “saints” of God (Dan 7:25, Dan 12:7, Dan 12:11, Dan 12:12, Rev 11:2, Rev 11:3, Rev 12:6, Rev 12:14, Rev 13:5).

I do NOT believe the persecuted “saints” will all be Jews

who were “left behind” at a secret rapture.

I do NOT believe that Christian believers will be raptured BEFORE these events take place.

THE LAMB-LIKE BEAST

I believe the “lamb-like beast” of Revelation Chapter 13, IS the Little Horn” of Daniel Chapters 7, 8, 9 and 11.

Revelation 13:11-18 [John describes the lamb-like second beast.] “Then I saw a second beast, coming out of the earth [or out of ‘the land’]. It had two horns like a lamb, but it spoke like a dragon.

12 It exercised all the authority of the first beast on its behalf, and made the earth     and its inhabitants worship the first beast, whose fatal wound had been healed.

13 And it performed great signs, even causing fire to come down from heaven to the earth in full view of the people. 14 Because of the signs it was given power to perform on behalf of the first beast, it deceived the inhabitants of the earth. It ordered them to set up an image in honor of the beast who was wounded by the sword and yet lived.

15 The second beast was given power to give breath to the image of the first beast, so that the image could speak and cause all who refused to worship the image to be killed.

Imagine a world monitoring network (such as the one used today in communist China to monitor citizens and visitors). The Image of the Beast will both “speak” and “hear” and “command.” Communications are transmitted to every cell phone, radio, and television. The nexus of this network is set up at the Temple on the Mount at Jerusalem.

I see two possibilities. EITHER an evil Antichrist power has taken over the State of Israel, OR the State of Israel itself has agreed to work with the Beast power.

The lamb-like beast has perhaps developed this advanced monitoring system, and more advanced weapons system [“fire from heaven”]. Jerusalem is now acting on behalf of “the Beast.” She has become the enforcer for the Beast.

Orthodox Jews are the minority in Israel. The greater part of the population are secular for the most part. They view the historic Feast Days simply as times for national pride and solidarity as Jews. They do not regard them as mandatory for atonement with God. They may view animal sacrifices, and a return to strict law-keeping, with trepidation or annoyance. They may resist the idea of a theocracy, led by a priesthood.

In Part IV of our series on the Secret Rapture, we will look more closely at the 3.5 years of the Beast’s absolute rule.

We pray this study will help the saints of God to recognize the Evil Imposter.

We pray this study will prove a blessing.
